Poker Player Biographies  -   Joe Cada   Phil Ivey   Doyle Brunson Prahlad Friedman
Gus Hansen was born in 1974 on February the 13th in Denmark and went on to become one of the most feared names in live and online poker today. Hansen has won a cool three World Poker Tour events as well as the 2007 Aussie Millions and the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament. He turned into a professional poker player in 1997. Before that he was a very good backgammon player, however realised that the real money to be made was in poker.

Gambling came naturally to Gus Hansen. He’s well known to take on crazy size bets and challenges. He is famous for the boxing match in which he fought fellow poker player Theo Jorgensen (who also has a WSOPE bracelet under his belt). Sadly Gus lost this fight but he can still be found gambling on almost any event that he can.

Gus is not just a one trick wonder. He has also started a number of successful businesses including owning a small share in the poker giant Full Tilt Poker. This might also explain why Gus was one of the first sponsored online poker professionals on the site. Gus is well respected for his extremely loose aggressive play which has given him great success in the game today. Gus’ live tournament winnings as a live and online poker player is reported to have exceeded 7.2 million dollars which is a huge amount for any poker player to achieve.

Due to his highly unpredictable and aggressive tournament strategy, opponents find it very hard to put Gus Hansen on a hand whenever he is in one. This means that Gus gets paid off a lot more on his good hands than most players.

Live Poker Tournament Success
Sadly in Gus’ live poker career he has not faired too well at the World Series of Poker with no bracelets won and just 5 in the money finishes. The highest finish he made was only 61st - which proves that even the best can be cursed with bad luck in the World Series of Poker; the latest poker tournament series in the world. Something that many plays do not know is Gus featured in a professional poker instructional video series called “Going All-In”. The DVD that Gus was actually in was named “Texas Hold'Em Poker Advanced Strategies with Gus Hansen”. Despite these poor World Series of Poker results players respect Gus far and wide for being one of the best players in live and online poker Gus is sometimes found online playing the highest stakes games on Full Tilt Poker.
