Poker Player Biographies  -   Joe Cada   Gus Hansen   Phil Ivey   Prahlad Friedman
Doyle Brunson is one of the oldest successful poker players in the world. Born in 1933 in Las Vegas, Doyle has consistent broken records across the board when it comes to poker. This influential doyen of a player has written many books which influence the way poker is played today. Doyle Brunson is also the only player ever to win back to back Main Events at the World Series of Poker as well as being the first poker player to earn over $1 million in poker tournament winnings.

Doyle first was seduced into playing poker for a living after getting a new job as a business machines salesman. The first day of the job Doyle was invited to play 7 card stud and managed to earn well over a months wages in just a few hours of play. This was enough for Doyle and he soon quit his job to become a professional poker player.

Illegal Poker Games
Being an old school adult poker player Doyle had no choice but to play in the illegal back games being run at the time. These games were often run by organised crime gangs and mobs. That being the case Doyle has admitted to being beaten and robbed many times during his early adult poker career. Doyle rose through the ranks releasing one of the best known poker books in the world: “Super System”. Now Doyle can be found playing some of the largest live poker games in the world at the world famous “Bobby’s room” - where stakes accept $4000/8000 for just one hand of blinds.

Doyle is not just a one trick pony either. As a poker player he has won numerous tournaments including his most recent bracelet at the World Series of Poker in 2005 - while experiencing success in 2003 and 2004 at the World Series as well.  Doyle also has a pseudonym nickname as is found with most poker players today. After an announcer pronounced Doyle’s name wrong calling him “Texas Dolly” instead of “Texas Doyle” the name stuck. Now many poker players know this great adult poker player just as “Dolly”

Players may recognise Doyle from a number of adult poker television shows such as High Stakes Poker -playing for the highest stakes available on television. Doyle is still able to compete with the young gun internet poker players of today by mixing up his game to ensure they don’t get any reads on him, and the family success looks set to continue with his son - Todd Brunson - who is also very adept at poker and has been seen playing on the same shows as his father.
