Some time back Full Tilt Poker introduced a new form of online poker known as Rush Poker, providing a brand new way to play which showed the potential to give a lot of players a lot of extra entertainment. Rush Poker was  introduced with the more casual/fun player in mind, in an attempt to keep the new player conveyor belt running and draw more new depositors into the game. If you're a fun player, the chances are you want to see more hands, and get maximum playing time and action for your money.

So if you're only hearing about Rush Poker for the first time, then as with any new game you'll need to get a handle on the best strategies to use - you can jump straight to the Rush Poker Strategy page now or read a little more on the background to this way of playing the game from Full Tilt Poker below.

In Rush poker games, there's no hanging around waiting. The game is played with exactly the same rules as any regular poker game, except when you either fold or reach the end of a hand (whichever happens first) you're immediately moved to a new table and dealt a new hand pretty much instantly. This is going to suit any player who doesn't like waiting for good hands, and subsequently doesn't get a lot of action. You can simply fold any bad hand, and get moved to a new table with the chance straight away of landing a good starting hand.

To start off in a Rush Poker game session, you don't choose a table in the normal way but via a lobby where all other players are waiting for the same game type and stakes. The software will automatically seat you at your starting table, and you'll play against new opponents in every rush poker hand (not all the time but most because if you play long enough, of course you'll come up against players you've seen before).

As with any form of poker game, the strategies and elements you'll need to understand to get the best chances of success are different than in standard games - and because the Rush poker variant is still in its infancy, any specific strategies that are successful will change as players adapt to the game.

The most important change which Rush Poker introduces is in the dynamics of folding. In standard games, fun players are likely to play more hands pre-flop than they should. They want the action and the entertainment. But in a rush poker game, there's no need to play the weaker hands since you can just get moved and receive a new one by folding. Hence in this new poker game type, if an opponent does play then you can expect that to indicate a higher chance they're holding something decent.

The most obvious poker strategy to use with this knowledge is in using raising strategy aggressively - if you're first to bet at any stage, then a raise is more likely to drive any subsequent betting opponent into folding. Why take the risk of playing when you know you can fold and get two new cards? Of course, if someone bets after your raise then there may well be a higher chance they're not worth pushing further.

The best way to get some experience of Rush Poker is by going in head first and trying out some games. At the moment Full Tilt is the poker room you're going to use, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this variant of the game become very popular and begin to be used by other leading poker rooms too.
