Treasure Island Online Poker Review

After a shaky start in 2014 the status of legalised online poker in US states is changing gradually. Three states have already legalized online gambling, Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey, with residents legally being able to play the game online for real money.

Games are provided by a mixture of big names in the poker industry such as 888 Poker, or by the online arms of land based operators such as Caesars.

But competition is always welcome, and the latest land-based casino to enter the market is Treasure Island, who's online poker site is ready to launch.
It's early days for a review of a poker site that's in its infancy, but here we'll start to look at what the Treasure Island online poker site offers Nevada based poker players.
Poker Cards & Chips
Treasure Island Hotel & Casino is of course located on the Las Vegas strip - it's one of the well known casinos in the city. The online version - for which Treasure Island management received a license to run in 2013 - has yet to be named but we can expect it to be something like TreasureIslandPoker.com.

It's not clear why the owners have waited a few years to kick off operations, but the theory would be they were waiting to see how the online poker market matured before launching.

Whatever the reason, that 3 year gap has probably given Treasure Island some thinking time about which online poker model they'd want to operate, and the chips have come down on the side of running it as a membership-based site.

How Does Treasure Island Poker Work?

For anyone who hasn't heard the term 'poker membership site' before, it's an operation where you'll pay a subscription fee to play. It's not a new concept - WPT is a good existing example.

To play online poker, you won't be depositing cash into an account and using it to by chips and play ring games or tournaments. You will however be paying a regular monthly amount (if you want to play real money) that gets you entry to those games, or of course you'll be able to play for free with practice money.

Memberships for Treasure Island online are expected to set back poker fans anywhere from nothing to around $15
.

What Can I Win?

Many of these type sites operate on a rewards basis, based of course on how well you do. Treasure Island rewards include cash prizes as you'd expect, plus the tournament entries that are always nice prizes to win.

What  Types Of Membership Are There?

There are three distinct types of membership:

Free or Level 1

Free games are great and you'll find them on dozens of social casino game sites. But there will often be a limit to which games can be played.
Treasure Island free games will be listed here when known.

Gold or Level 2

Costing just under $10 per month, the Gold membership will give access to a wider range of games but there are some limits on prizes.

Platinum or Level 3

At just under $15 this is the highest level and obviously gives the greatest benefits, with maximum prize levels and the full range of games available.

Is It Legal?

Well we know that online poker is legal in its entirety in Nevada as long as the operator is properly licensed and allows state residents only to play, although there is also ongoing interest in interstate poker which would allow cross state games between all three states that have passed regulation bills.

Many subscription type sites such as those found running social casino games fall outside of anti-gambling laws across many most states in general, though it remains to be seen whether Treasure Island's online poker operation falls into the same category.

Summary

There are a number of questions still to be answered, but there's every chance that the online poker offer from Treasure Island will attract a good level of interest among poker fans. They'll have their work cut out though to compete with the likes of Caesars/WSOP, MGM, 888, Pokerstars, and others.

What may attract strong players is the possibility of plenty of players looking for fun games. Whenever that happens there are always prospects for some easy wins.

With the membership scheme model in place though, those wins may not offer great value returns, and it may end up that Treasure Island only attracts recreational online players for some time.

Of course there are already other social type poker operators vying for similar types of players too, with Pureplay Poker being one example and the newly formed PokerTribe.com being another.

It's all getting crowded, but with millions of poker fans to cater for there looks to be plenty of pieces of pie to go around.
