Well in what would appear to be an admirable act in early 2015, Singapore's ruling body introduced a new Remote Gambling Act (RGA) designed to force all gambling sites to send most of their proceeds to charitable or social causes or face being labeled as banned.
This very quickly removed many of the operators who had been servicing Singapore-based bettors, and opened up the way for the state-led Singapore Pools to enjoy a likely monopoly in sports betting services.
The operation applied for a license which at this point is still under scrutiny within Singapore authority body circles.
For now, punters in the state can use the current Pools site to see odds on sports events, but to place a bet requires a phone call or a visit to an authorised retail outlet.
When and if the website goes live - assuming the application to trade is given the green light - punters will be able to use it to make their sports bets online. It's already known that the site software will be powered by Openbet, so looks a fairly sure thing that it will kick off fully fledged operations at some point.
If it does launch successfully, at least those sports fans in Singapore will have somewhere to bet that's regulated and legal, although we know that regular well known sports betting operators like Bet365 are always honest, trustworthy, and regularly provide great betting offers.
