Beginners Roulette Guide

Inside and Outside Bets

Roulette offers players two main betting options, inside and outside. Inside bets are made on more specific results from a spin of the wheel, like betting on a certain pocket number or a small number of pockets numbers. These have a smaller probability and carry larger payouts than outside bets, which allow a player to wager on a certain color, odd or even numbers or an extended string of numbers. These often have higher probabilities and therefore don’t pay out as much.

Inside Payouts

Making a bet on a single number is known as a “straight bet” in roulette. This is the most difficult wager to win because it is so specific, however it does pay out at 35/1 odds. You can also “split”, putting your chips on the line between two numbers at 17/1, or “corner” playing four numbers at once, which pays 8/1.

You can make a “street” bet by putting your chips at the beginning of a row of three numbers at 11/1 or go for a “double street” by placing your wager in between the two rows for a win of 5/1. You can also make a 5-number bet by placing your chips in the upper left hand corner, covering pocket Nos. 1, 2, 3, 0, and 00. If any of those hit, you’re paid out at 6/1 odds.

Of course, all of this is just a basic introduction. If you're keen to find out more, there are plenty of other pages here on Winmoney101 which will help with deeper understanding of the game.
Chance has long been compared to a spin of the wheel, and that’s pretty much what roulette is all about. In fact, the name of the game is actually French for “little wheel”. It’s one of the most common games found in brick and mortar and sports gambling websites but plenty of people have no idea how roulette is played. Here’s a beginners’ breakdown:

The Roulette Wheel

Most casinos uses a double-zero wheel, which has pockets numbered 1 through 36 as well as zero and double zero. Each pocket number has a corresponding color, either red or black expect for zero and double zero. The dealer opens wagering, waits for everyone to place their bets, and then spins the wheel and drops the ball in. The game ends when the ball comes to rest in one of the pockets and players are paid out if they have a winning wager.
